Day 1 (16 July 2025) - An opportunity to practice communication skills, which will improve your confidence when caring for a person at end of life. Day 2 (23 July 2025) - To recognise changes, explore and understand how to practically care for someone's mouth, skin, bowel and bladder at end of life.

Course highlights:

Day 1 - 16 July 2025 - Sensitive communications at end of life

  • Build Communication Skills: Gain confidence in verbal and non-verbal communication learn how to respond to challenging questions.

  • Communication Models: Introduction to the Barley model of communication and the SBAR tool.

  • Practical Demonstrations: Hands-on sessions on care of a person in bed, catheter management, skin and mouth care.

  • Importance of TEPs: Understand your role in Treatment Escalation Plans.

 

Day 2 - 23 July 2025 - Care and comfort measures at the end of life

  • Emotional and Spiritual Care: Learn to recognise and address individual concerns and spiritual needs.

  • Meaningful Interventions: Focus on small, impactful actions for those imminently dying.

  • Pain and Distress Recognition: Identify signs of pain and distress in dying patients.

  • Care after Death: Learn how to care for a person who has had an expected death.
